With football season rapidly coming to a close, not to fear. There are still plenty of fun activities to get you through the upcoming winter months! Here is a full list of things to do in Gainesville and Ocala this weekend!
38th Annual Downtown Festival and Art Show will be held at the Bo Diddley Plaza this year! "The nationally recognized Downtown Festival & Art Show transforms downtown Gainesville into a masterful blend of art, music, and entertainment, drawing a crowd of more than 80,000. For two days, visitors can marvel at works from 240 of the nation’s most talented artists, who display their original oils and acrylics, vibrant watercolors, captivating sculptures, dazzling jewelry, decorative ceramics, and vivid photography." The festival will be open from 10AM-5PM Saturday and Sunday.
On November 17th from 9AM-12PM, come check out Fitness Fest at Depot Park in Downtown Gainesville. The Fitness Fest is being hosted by the University of Florida Diabetes Institute. "There will be a wellness walk around the park, yoga, health screenings, face painting, vendors and more!" There will also be a raffle for five gift certificates to the Florida School of Massage, and one gift card for Hyppo Gourmet Ice Pops. This event is free to the public and promotes National Diabetes Awareness Month!
Newnans Lake Tour with Gainesville150 and Cultural Arts Coalition
If you're looking to spend the weekend in the sunshine, make a visit to Newnans Lake! Experience "historical boat tours led by naturalists and tour guides. There will also be live music including performances by Jazz Bandits, Weeds of Eden and Passion." The "exhibits detail the history of the lake and the people who lived here." The Newnans Lake Tour will be held by Gainesville150 and the Cultural Arts Coalition. The best part, it's also free of charge.
The 4th Annual Hoggetowne Burlesque & Drag Alliance Showcase
If you're interested in a sexy, sultry and comedic weekend, make a trip over the 4th Annual Hoggetowne Burlesque & Drag Alliance Showcase. "Our mission is to promote collaboration, education & professional development within the local fringe arts community." The show will be held on Saturday, November 16th at 9PM, doors will open at 8PM! Tickets are available online for $10 per person and will go up to $15 per person at the door. The event will be held at the High Dive in Downtown Gainesville and is for adults 18 and older.
Alachua Main Street Harvest Festival
For a great way to celebrate the communities' local businesses as well as enjoy the weekend outside, check out the Main Street Harvest Festival. There will be "entertainment at two stages, live radio broadcasts and our SFHS marching band performing during the day. Charities will have free child-friendly activities, and pony rides and a petting zoo will be available!" The Main Street Harvest Festival will be on Sunday from 11AM-5PM. The festival will be held at the City of Alachua Downtown Historic District in the main street area of Alachua.
