What's more American than apple pie and baseball? A hot dog, of course! Gainesville might be known for the Gators and dive bars, but this city also has sloppy and delicious dogs. Check out these four top-notch places if you're craving the best hot dogs in Gainesville.
Need to fill that hot dog hankering quickly? Dave’s New York Deli is the place to go. With two locations in Gainesville, it's easy to find one near you. With just four hot dogs on the menu, Dave’s can't be sold short. Their hot dogs are made from Nathan’s Hot Dogs, which are some of the best, most authentic hot dogs around. What sets Dave’s apart from the other vendors on this list is that they offer jumbo-sized hot dogs if you find yourself extra hungry.
Big Mill’s is a Gainesville staple with locations only in the area. Owner Keith Miller knew that Gainesville was waiting for a cheesesteak shop, and, in 2002 when the Cubs finally won the World Series, Keith opened up the first Big Mill’s location on University Avenue. There are five signature hot dogs on the menu followed by a “BYOD” (build your own dog) for $5.55. With 14 toppings to choose from, you can't go wrong with this All-Star choice.
SweetBerries Eatery and Frozen Custard
Although close to University Avenue in Gainesville, SweetBerries is a hidden gem. Here, you'll find six different hot dogs on the menu. What sets SweetBerries a part from the rest is that they offer pre-made hot dogs with all sorts of ingredients. The “Chicago Dog” is one of my favorites topped with onions, tomatoes, hot peppers, green relish, a pickle slice, yellow mustard, and celery salt. Regardless of which one you choose, all hot dogs are served with chips and a pickle. If you're here and have room for a sweet bite, try their custard. The signature flavor changes every day, but they're always delicious.
The Crafty Bastards Restaurant and Pub
Hot dogs come in all shapes and sizes. If you find yourself looking for a not-so-typical hot dog, take a trip to The Crafty Bastards. Their “Schwetty Sausage” is new to the menu and is made from grilled Azars Andouille sausage and served with fries.
Whether you're grabbing a bite on the go or want to savor flavor while sitting down, the best hot dog places in Gainesville have you covered.
